On call for God at the convenience store

It always amazes me the places and ways God chooses to use us when we place ourself "on call" for God. I had stopped at a small convenience store to work on a client's book cover design after attending a women's ministry meeting outside of Shawsville. The store has a couple tables inside and no distraction of wi-fi.

My laptop's battery died after about three hours, so I packed up and walked out to the car. A man walked by and asked how I liked my pearl car. I answered him, and we began to talk. The conversation managed to flow from cars to contractors to the fact that his wife was dying. Hello...divine appointment!

The man began to share the details of how his wife had been given the wrong medication and how things had spiraled downhill from there. I asked him if his wife knew Jesus as her savior...if she was born-again, and he said yes. He said that he was also a Christian. I offered to pass on their prayer need to our prayer team, then I asked if I could pray with him right there in the parking lot. He said that I could, so I shared some healing scriptures with him and prayed with him right there. I gave him additional directions for scriptures to read and speak over his wife and reminded him of what the word of God says about his and his wife's situation.

The man thanked me and went on his way with a smile on his face. I have to believe that the Holy Spirit spoke through me to give that man exactly what he needed to hear.

God wants to use us to be His light and salt to the hurting world around us. He places opportunities in our path every single day. I pray that I am always ready, in season and out of season, to give an account of the hope I have in Christ.

About Me

My photo
My life is a living testimony of God’s redeeming power. Surviving a failed abortion, childhood abuse, rejection, & years of brokenness, I know firsthand the depths of despair and the heights of God’s healing grace. Born again & filled with the Holy Spirit in 1980, I stepped into a lifelong journey of ministry that has taken me from youth and women’s ministry to street evangelism, prison outreach, disaster response, and missions work in Uganda. Over the years, I’ve co-founded two non-profit missions ministries, and have served in leadership roles across churches, training centers, and nonprofit organizations. Through every season — from healing after divorce to finding restoration in my marriage to my soulmate, Tim — I have strived to remained faithful to my calling to share the love of Christ with the broken, the hurting, & the overlooked. Today, I continue to minister through writing, podcasting, inmate outreach, and evangelism, blending my own testimony with biblical truth to help others find hope, freedom, & identity in Christ. Tim and I live in NE Tennessee, where our home is filled with faith, family, creativity, purpose...and cats, chickens, & turkeys!
